Storytellers Group Piano (ages 6-8)
Storytellers introduces a music curriculum for children (ages 6-8) that is BOTH about learning the fundamentals of piano AND creating a musical journey based in story that resonates with the imagination of young students.
The focus is on how music can convey character, mood, and feelings: in addition to the "nuts-and-bolts" of playing piano, students focus on using the piano as a tool of expression. Interactive games and songs are used to make music fun, while at the same time. ensuring they gain strong, secure piano fundamentals. Our aim is to develop a love of music, the piano, and create an opportunity for youthful artistic expression.
In each 12-week program, students focus on ONE story (complete with a workbook). Each of the 12 lessons in the workbook contain 1 (short and simple) song that "musically-describes" (through the use of simple tone colours, rhythms, and articulations) one incident in the story. By the end of the course, each students is assigned 2- 3 of these very short, simple songs to polish-- with the goal of recording them on an mp3. This recorded music is then combined with a recorded narration of the story performed by a young NYPT acting student! The result is: a recorded story and simple soundtrack made by the students!
Suitable for both complete beginners and those with about 1 year previous traditional piano lessons.
